Thai people in Yala love the sweet cooing sound of doves and believe that the birds bring good luck to the owners. Those birds with qualities specified by ancient texts are believed to bestow great wealth and honour on their owners. This festival features a competition in which the participants come from all over Southern Thailand, as well as from neighbouring countries; such as, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Brunei. There are contests to find the most beautiful cage and demonstrations of cage-making, displaying the local wisdom of Yala.
Highlight: The major highlights are the competition to find the dove with the most melodious and sweetest cooing sound and the red-whiskered bulbul singing competition.
