I am based in Bangkok and I am wondering if anyone is interested on a trip to Isan start of February. I haven't really decided where to go yet, but if anyone is interested perhaps that's something we could discuss. Email me:

I saw your post and although I can't go anywhere because I'm working in Bangkok now I would like to suggest you go to the Wat Pa Nam Yoi temple in Roi Et near the border with Mukdahan province. It's so huge and beautiful and so different from any other temple I've ever seen (I've lived in Thailand for 3 years so I've seen plenty of them).
Here is a link about the place and contact info:

Another really awesome temple is in Buri Ram. It's called Phnom Rung. It's an old ruin. It's very much like an Aztec temple. It's on a big hill and it's aligned with the sun so you can see through the whole temple complex to see the sun rise and set. Really an amazing feat of architecture by today's standards even though it was built thousands of years ago.
Have fun in Issan!
